Many of our email newsletter subscribers are either contemplating the idea of visiting the city of eternal spring or have already been. Regardless of your current affiliation with Medellin, at one point or another, you were skeptical about a trip to Colombia.

A lot of you are probably hearing or hearing, “Be careful out there; the cartels kidnap people,” and it was hinted that a trip down here isn’t the best idea. You’ve read multiple articles written by major newspapers, magazines, and websites speaking wonders of this city and its people, yet you can’t get the headline “Most Dangerous City in the World—1993” out of your head. You’re not alone.

There is more negative talk on Medellin than positive, but ironically, the people who have never visited are the ones with the most to say. Here are a few frequently asked questions, answered by some of our clients.

How safe is Medellin?

This is always the first question on people’s minds and the most common question among travelers.

It’s no secret that Medellin was infamous in the 80s and 90s for Pablo Escobar, but times have changed. City leaders use of social programs and tough policies helped drive crime out of the city’s most impoverished neighborhoods. The first step towards any city’s long-term recovery.

The city has its rough areas. However, just like NYC, Miami, and LA have a few marginalized sectors, Medellin also has them. These places are a bit dangerous, but we will never take you there without some type of security.

Just steer clear of flashy jewelry (same advice for 90% of the cities in the world), and you will be fine. There is a fairly large community of ex-pats living in the Poblado neighborhood (the safest and best in Medellin) that will tell you to avoid acting stupid, and Medellin will take you in as one of its own.

Best time to take a trip to Medellin

Second, for Medellin FAQs, when is the best time to take a trip to Medellin?. The city is known as the city of eternal spring due to its amazing weather year-round, so you’re always looking at the mid-70s.

It all depends on what type of traveler you are. I, for one, hate crowds, so the Medellin flower festival is out (more on this next paragraph). I also don’t recommend the week of Easter (for 2020 it will be April 5th–11th) due to it being one of the most famous weeks in terms of Colombians vacationing (fewer people out).

What’s the weather like in Medellin, and what clothing should I bring?

Medellin is known for its amazing weather; they even call it “The Land of Eternal Spring." It is known for its lukewarm weather, averaging around 72 degrees F all year round. We do have rain from time to time, so we suggest bringing a light jacket and light clothing.

What is the flower festival?

The Medellin flower festival is our biggest tourist attraction of the year. Thousands of people from all over the world visit Medellin for two weeks, where parades and concerts take place on a daily basis. Not a fan of crowds or elevated costs? Stay away during this time. Next year, the Medellin flower festival will take place from July 31st to August 9th.

December is great, but it is usually tough for bachelor parties to be set up during the holidays. In conclusion, any time that isn’t the first two weeks of April or the first two weeks of August, you’ll be fine.

What to do in Medellin?

After wrapping up a 3-week trip to Europe, I realized how amazing Medellin really is. As a city that’s on the rise and is known for its nice people and beautiful women (sorry, Europe), Medellin is a paradise for bachelor party groups.

There are activities such as paragliding in Medellin, ATV tours in Medellin, helicopter tours in Medellin, and jet skiing. If you’re not into adventure, there are cultural excursions to once dangerous neighborhoods (think of Chernobyl but with murals of Pablo Escobar). Lastly, the food is amazing, and locals are always happy to see foreigners do away with stereotypes and visit their city.

Visit the colorful town of Guatape, where you have options like a coffee tour of Guatape, a Guatape boat tour, or a Guatape helicopter tour. You can stay in beautiful Guatape hotels and hit up the can’t-miss Comuna 13 neighborhood with our graffiti tour of Medellin. Take a look at the city with the Medellin city tour, walk around Parque Lleras, stop by La Isla Medellin and Fase 2 strip clubs, and take a 2-hour ATV Medellin tour up the mountain.

Are there age restrictions for your tours and services?

For most of our tours, we do require you to be 18+; however, if you are accompanied by an adult, we can accommodate you.

How much will a Medellin Bachelor Party Cost?

Bachelor party in colombia and trips to Medellin are more popular each year, and considering the country’s economy, there is no better time to set one up.   Bachelor trip July 2024
Came here with 12 people for a bachelor party. Eddie took care of everything from dinner to clubs, historical tours, and all other miscellaneous things you could imagine being available in Medellin. He even got us a ball to play fútbol with the locals at the community pitch. Thanks again for everything Eddie. We had a wonderful experience using Medellin VIP for our trip to Medellin last month! Taty was our VIP host for the evening and she was amazing! She chose great restaurants, bars, and clubs every night - the reservations included reserved areas that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. She accommodated all of our requests and last minute changes, and was always very prompt and communicative. Best of all, she was a lot of fun and brought great energy to our group. We highly recommend you ask for her as your nightlife host - you will not be disappointed! We also reserved the chef service. Jessie Landa and her team cooked breakfast and lunch every day, and it was delicious! It was nice to not have to worry about food during the day. They brought all of the food/supplies and even cleaned up afterwards. Really friendly group of people and very accommodating. Other items Medellin VIP delivered on were hookahs, in-house masseuses, and IV therapy. It was all a really great experience and the whole team was very responsive on WhatsApp and took all of our requests, even on a short timeline. Went on a a bachelor trip with my best friends. The Value we got from Medellin VIP was exponential compared to the Price. From having our own private Chef, Driver, and local host, and even more importantly, the level of detail and attention they had with us, working with our schedule and last minute changes etc. - David, overall exceptional work definitely saved me from a couple of local scams, along with making sure we were always together and, of course, bonding with all of us while being extremely professional. - Jessie made the best food we had in Medellin(maybe all of Colombia), her team very professional, great service and the attention to detail!! - Margarita y Pipe planned an amazing trip to Guatape, always looking after us, making sure we dont do dumb things and of course keeping us safe.   Wow! What an amazing trip! Thank you so much Katherine for making the planning so effortless. We had an epic time and a lot of us will be coming back to Colombia again as soon as we possibly can. The Communa 13 Tour, Escobar Tour and ATV Tours were all great ideas and we enjoyed each one of them. The house was breathtaking.

  MedVip in a few word were AMAZING and OUTSTANDING!!! They entire group made the bachelor weekend stressless for sure. From the beginning with planning for over 6 months Kate…oh man Kate was on point with all of our thoughts and requests. She was soooo patient with changes that needed to be made and was able to accommodate those changes. Ask for Kate is all I can say lol. Transportation with the sprinter service was always on time never left us out there looking. I tour host Edward made the guys feel the VIP love went out partying. Somehow the man knew everybody and never waited in a line for nothing at all. Thank you Ed my man. The chef morning services with chef Jessie was perfect. Food was perfect everyday and even those hangover days they still came and handle everything with professionalism. Thank chef Jessie. Last jessica our logistics lead, she was perfect with lining up all of the tours. The fellas love comuna 13 and being able to embrace that Medellín love. The paragliding is definitely a must see experience as well.

Let me tell you, I own two wedding venues in the United States, so I know a thing or two about hard work, planning, and making magic happen at the last minute. When I landed in Medellin, I reached out to Medellin VIP, and within 24 hours, we had crafted an unforgettable experience.

We arranged 5 private shuttles to pick up my friends from the airport – 4 luxurious cars and 1 spacious sprinter shuttle. Every friend of mine couldn't stop raving about how seamless it was to find their drivers. And the surprises kept coming!

On the first night, we were welcomed by a private chef with a New Year's themed three-course meal, accompanied by a fantastic local band. Danny from Medellin VIP even took the time to personally meet us – and it was his birthday! Now, that's dedication!
