Paragliding in Medellin: An Exhilarating Experience

If you’re in Medellin looking for adventure, look no further than paragliding. A tour built for the adrenaline junkies, paragliding in Medellin has it all.

An activity for all ages, paragliding combines picturesque views with speed and adrenaline.

Each week, we send groups of people up to San Felix which is a small town located 40 minutes away from Medellin.

What is Paragliding?

Many confuse paragliding with parasailing and hang gliding so we wanted to clear the air (no pun intended) and make this distinction.

Paragliding is an activity that was born in the 1960s and created as a parachute.

You and a trained professional are suspended under the parachute and the expert will steer the fabric wing. Upon request, your licensed and trained professional can perform all sorts of tricks. Or, if you prefer a more scenic route, you can soar and take in the views.

This activity is not to be confused with hang gliding. With hang gliding, a pilot flights a firm lightweight glider off a cliff. Sounds the same but hang gliding requires you and the pilot to be lying down in a prone position while paragliding is you the pilot sitting down. Paragliding is more comfortable and less scary if you’re a beginner.

What makes Paragliding in Medellin unique?

Paragliding in Medellin is an experience like very few others. It is the thrill of flying combined with amazing views of the Aburra Valley.

Medellin is a city known for being lodged in a valley making its views unreal. So, paragliding in this city will have you witnessing the mountains, trees, and forest that make up the valley.

Bring your GoPro and you’ll have a great opportunity to film this entire experience. From the moment you’re asked to run out and jump off a cliff, to the instant you land and everything between.

Where does Paragliding in Medellin take place?

Paragliding in Medellin doesn’t happen in Medellin itself. We need to take a drive out to San Felix (a town about 40 minutes away) to reach the perfect launch point.

We don’t get to see the town but instead its highest point. This is where there will be a team of certified paragliding pilots awaiting.

The 40-minute drive is the perfect build-up and as we start seeing the city fade away up the mountains.

Once the vehicle comes to a complete stop, you’ll need to take another 10-minute hike to reach the summit. This makes for an interesting morning. Bring comfortable clothing.

Daytime Tours in Medellin

Out of all our daytime tours and excursions, there is no tour that divides groups as much as paragliding.

If you’re here with a group, most people can consent to take part in ATV tours in Medellin. Most can even take the 2-hour trip to the beautiful Guatape. Paragliding in Medellin is a whole other animal.

With acrophobia reaching the top 5 phobias humans have, paragliding is without a doubt out of the question for many. For those still left open to trying new experiences, this daytime activity will help clear your mind. It also provides you with great photographic memories of this amazing city.

With this tour, you also have the chance to mingle with locals. Dozens of ‘Paisas’ gather around the area where these adventure seekers take flight. They use this space to fly their drones, walk their dogs and even go on dates.
